For Christmas, I got an Ancestry DNA kit. I was super stoked about this because I really wanted to know what I was. I have always been told that I was American Indian, Cherokee specifically from NC. When I got the kit Christmas day, I had it in the mail the next morning heading back to them to be processed. No hesitation here.
I was very eager when I opened the packaging I found a tube and directions with stuff to ship it back. You have to have mouth free of food, drink or smoking for at least 30 minutes before you can spit. You have to fill the tube with spit to the full line or just above is okay.
Once you have filled it you put the cap on it and tighten until the liquid in the cap goes into the saliva. You shake it for five seconds and then package and place in the mailbox. I mailed mine on Dec 26, 2017, and it arrived on Dec 29, 2017. On Jan 8, 2017, Lab Processing began. It wasn’t too long after that, but it did seem like an eternity to me the results were in 10 days later on Jan 18, 2017.
It overall wasn’t a long process in reality, but to me, it was cause I was really eager to get them back. I was truly disappointed to find there wasn’t one drop of Native American in me.
Well, here are the results:
I want to include that this post wasn’t sponsored or anything. I did place my referral link in this post for Ancestry DNA because if you use it you’ll get $10 off your order and I’ll get $10 gift via Amazon. So, feel free to use it, once you do and you order your own kit. Then you will see something about referring a friend and you can get a link to refer people to Ancestry DNA, share it!

The results don’t mean you don’t have Native American heritage. There’s a lot of problems with the results from these kits, especially with Native American DNA. What they do is compare your DNA with samples other people have provided. There’s a few good articles out there that explain it way better than I ever could, but basically, since they don’t have a large pool of Native Americans that have contributed DNA, they can’t match the test to it.
