Tempura Chicken, Sauce & Faux Rice!
This is a super simple recipe and will blow your freaking mind! My mind was blown! I’ll be making this again soon after I order more protein isolate! I used up my last bit making this delicious meal!
I fried them in coconut oil! And let me tell you they’re coming along beautifully!
Ingredients:
-
Tempura Chicken
- 2 c coconut oil
- 1.25 lb cut cubed chicken breast (boneless)
- 3/8 C Wheat Protein Isolate/Unflavored Protein Powder(Whey) (Separated 1/4 c & 1/8 c)
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp xanthan gum
Faux Rice:
- 2 c cauliflower crumbles
- 5 or 7 dashes of soy sauce
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp salt ( or to your liking)
General Tso’s Sauce for Chicken & Faux Rice:
- 3 tbsp Soy Sauce
- 3 tbsp Rice Wine Vinegar (0 carb)
- 2 tsp White Vinegar
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 9 Drops Liquid Sucralose
- ¼ Cup Water
- 2 Scallions (green and white part chopped, also optional)
- 1-2 tsps Sesame Seeds (optional)
- 1/2 tsp ginger
- Red Pepper Flakes to taste
Mix these separate from others in sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp xanthan gum OR guar gum
Directions:
Tempura Chicken:
- Preheat your oil in a frying pan for frying. Get your cooling rack/dish ready for the hot greasy chicken to be placed on.
- Place 1/8 cup of isolate and a pinch of salt in a dish, mix it up and sprinkle over the cubed chicken and stir it up, sprinkle more and stir it again, do this until all the dry is mixed in.
- In another bowl add the 1/4 cup of isolate and all other ingredients at this point except the eggs.
- Beat the eggs in a small dish and add them to the dry and mix until all incorporated.
- Next I basically dumped the batter into the chicken mixture being sure to coat it all and then fry it up! As it sits and you’re frying the pieces it may look like the batter is missing from some, but when it cooks it should be okay! I had some like that, but the batter like swelled around it.
Faux Rice:
- Place cauliflower in frying pan, hit it with a few sprinkles of soy sauce, garlic powder and salt. Cook until it partially tender, about 8-10 minutes.
General Tso’s Sauce:
- Start by placing all of the first set of ingredients in the sauce in a small pan, you may want to double this recipe also! Start it simmering.
- In another small dish mix the sesame oil, garlic powder and xanthan gum together.
- Add the xanthan gum mixture to the simmering pan and whisk it in.
They taste so good, just plain like this! I am blown away! I have some more ideas about this too! Oh ya, Baby!!!
Now these are AMAZING! I made a sauce for this and I wish I could give you the recipe for that, but I winged it! I couldn’t keep track of what I was doing LOL I was seriously adding this and adding that.

I’m coming up with 109 carbs per serving. Is this correct?
Marie LCHFDiva Baker says
I have no idea where you got 109 per serving it’s probably not even close to that for the whole recipe. THe part with most carbs is the cauliflower. but it has dietary fiber. are you deducting dietary fiber? I only use protein powder, which is 1 carb per serving. I want to say this is under 10 carbs per serving. but I don’t have all the ingredient info in front of me. I don’t count eggs as carbs. Thanks! 🙂

WHEAT protein isolate or WHEY protein isolate? Thanks.
Marie LCHFDiva Baker says
Either is fine! You can use whatever you unflavored whey or wheat protein isolate. both powdery and works. 🙂 This is really good!

This looks superb, thanks for sharing! I also have a bunch of choc protein powder I will try making fried bacon tempura, or shrimp tempura. Might need to add cocoa to boost the flavor.
